Agent,

You're probably right about my rd 3 lurches from previous games.

I just played a RR game with 12 bid (all to Lib) and I did a rd 4 lurch and it worked out really well.

That being said Germany had great dice in rd 1 and on a Russia counter of the Germany move to Ukr I had great dice as well.

Japan had bad dice in rd 1 (cleared Chi but lost 5 inf and 1 ftr).

I have no problem giving up WE for Kar, infact regardless of lurch or not I'd much rather have the Allies in WE then in Fin then Kar.

But what are your thoughts of trading SE?

I had no problem setting this up and doing this as well as strafing WE, because Japan was going good at that point, but I was just curious to see what you thought?

Anyone else feel free to chime in as well, about Germany trading SE or letting the Allies take it, provided Japan has Novo and Germany has taken Kar which means they have Cauc as well.

I have tried this particular strategy, and let me warn you, the $dinero$ that the allies get by you relinquishing territories can really hurt.

Well the key is to time the fall of WE as you take Ukr, then force Rus out of Kar the next turn.

You can make up the loss of WE with Cauc and Kar.

Further, you can then strafe the Allies landing in WE with German inf and 8 arm, 4 ftrs and a bomb.

I'll give up the 6 IPC, if they are losing 8-12 inf, while I only lose 4-6.

You only need to defend Germany. If the Allies go to SE, then they divided their army and you can wipe 1 or both of them out.

I think if you time it right as Japan holds Novo, you move to Ukr and Kar, then WE isn't that important to hold and Russia should fall before they get anywhere near being able to take out Ger. Provided you have some German ftrs. You can even bring over some J ftrs and bom to scare the heck out of the Allied fleet, making splitting up their navy (if not properly protected) a costly decision.

My thoughts on trading on SE are don't! By the point that this comes up you should be ready to put the knockout blow against Russia or else you are going to be in trouble b/c if the Allies are strong enough to hold WEuro then soon they will be strong enough to split their force and sit on both negating SE.

As far as a turn 3 lurch I do think it can work and presents the Allies with an enormous challenge. In general I think the lurch must come between turns 3-5 to be successful. Even by turn 6 it can be too late.

With WE you are right its not a big deal and unless the Allies can consolidate a position there the move is very expensive. Also if the Germans lurch and the Allies respond by stacking Spain the problem which arises is Germany can fall back f/Ukr in response to this and delay the lurch a few turns as the really monkey wrench for lurching is the UK.
