All right I have set out to complete a free game I plan to post online hopefully in the next 2 years based off of an AaA combat system... Basically it is like D-Day but involves Operation Market-Garden and the Siezure of Arnhem Bridge and beyond... So far here is what I have for "goodies":
1. Airborne resupply (chits) can be designated anywhere but is subject to AA Fire from Artillery... 2.New City Zones Makes Fighting difficult for Armor... 3. Bridges and Waterways become important, Especially larger Bridges which can get more units across to the other side... 4. New Targetting with Artillery against Tanks 5. Airborne Unit Advantages 6. Possibly new units 7. Beyond M-G to make for varied objectives... 8. Limited amount of Resupply Drops... 9. Weather Effects in combat 10. Tanks Movement after battle advantage Any Ideas on Rules are wanted!!! Thanks, GG -------------------- "It is well that war is so terrible - otherwise we should grow too fond of it."

Sounds great GG, I think it should be on a much smaller scale though. For instance, individual platoons . That would make a whole bunch of new infantry units available like mortar squads or maching gun platoons.

The lowest I think I would go would be Companies(approx. 115 men)... Total Operating Forces of the Anglo-Saxon Forces numbered around 100,000 Market+Garden so to do that would require about 900 Infantry... I don't have that many even with chips

here is rule development on the ideas I told you:
1. During your initial drop (which you choose where it goes) You put one counter with every Airborne "Group" (Their command chit 5 for the 1st Airborne, 2 for the 101, 2 for the 82nd)... These give you all airborne Advantages (Artillery targeting Tanks, Infantry in Urban Hexes gain +1, Infantry unnopposed in movement can move 2)... A unit is supplied if it is adjacent to a Supply chit(dropped each turn) and if It outnumbers the amount of enemy unit in the same zone... During the Airdrop phase all Supply chits are subject to AA fire from the same and Adjacent Zones... roll 1 die per German Artillery, a 1 is a hit and that supply chit is lost... More to come 2. Basically Tanks fight at 2 when Attacking into a City Zone... simple enough but devestating if the Axis can keep the allies pinned up at Nimijen or if the British Para's slow up the 9th or 10th SS Panzers... 3. A waterway can be crossed by only one unit from 1 space to another across a major river or 3 units across a Canal... Allows for the Nimijen river crossing but can be a pain if bottled up... IF a bridge is blown then you have to repair it and I'm working on the rules for that... 4. All Defending Artillery are rolled together... any one rolled kills a tank... British and American Para's now can combat the Panzers... 5. Airborne Infantry gains +1 in cities on there die rolls... they can also move 2 spaces from a resupply space if it was resupplied that turn... Airborne Artillery can kill tanks on a 1 or 2 unlike other Artillery which only hit on a1 6. I was thinking of Heavy Tanks for the Germans and Flak Batteries seperated from Artillery... and obviously British and American Paratroopers and Airborne Artillery... I might also add Field HQ's but that might not work out... 7. if you look at the wikipedia article on Market-Garden you will notice a town in the Top-left hand Corner called Almere... I was thinking of making the map to there... yeah 8. you can only make the amount of supply drops per how many transport planes are left in the operation... also resupply drops cannot be made in cities so other units that did get reupsupplied will have to get supplies to embattled units 9. If Foggy supply drops cannot be made and your troops will be short of desperately needed supplies 10. This was to represent the Armor crossing the Nimijen Bridge but not moving on for 18 hours because there infantry were still fighting to clear out Nimijen Tanks can enter a battle if adjacent and if they kill more units then lost units they can move as many armor that have only moved a space into combat an additional space even if that space initiates new combat... 11. New one: Battlefield politics cards will make it harder for the Players to accomplish goals and players will have to work around it... for example situated defense forces allied armor to go on only if supported by infantry at a 1:1 ratio... or unpreparedness makes German infantry defending LZ's battle with -1... ideas or thoughts...? Couple ideas:
1. Units represent Half Battalions or roughly 300 men. Each Battalion is represented by a chit on the board and is unknown to the enemy until attacked. In that way I can represent the Confusion of not knowing who attacked you. There is some more stuff to that but I won't get into that now. 2. Combat is not the same as you think. Each player determines an attack and defense structure which has a different setup every time. Attacker: Advance Assault Flank Penetration Attack (Frontal) Defender: Structured Orbed Objective Frontal (forgot the last) 2.The battleboard is 5 columns. 3. Objectives on the map have a certain difficulty level attached to them. For each lossed Infantry in battle you lose a chit. For each Artillery or Armor you lose 2 Chits. whoever has lost more chits subtracts the amount of his from the "winner" and that is the amount given to that player. If it is the face value of a Territorial Objective that objective is seized and the chits are placed under your battalion marker. 4. Battles are conducted as such: 1. Certain amount of units put on each column per player choosing and tactic allowances 2. Each unit is given a particular amount of dice based on what he has: Infantry get 1 Dice Armor get 3 and give 1:1 ratio support of 1 dice to an infantry Artillery get 1 Dice and give 1:2 Support dice to 2 Infantry 3. Roll all dice in each column 4. Count up amount of hits from face values of dice for each column.... Then I will make up the charts for hits for units based on battlefield tactics I know it seems confusing it is kind of a jumble but I have a general idea of how it will work to be continued... this has the potential to get VERY complicated

Maybe but I am trying to limit that... The only supplies I will be dealing with Are Airborne since they were critical Historically to the Outcome...
All orders are secret Deployment so that no one knows what will happen... There will be several "fortune" Type Cards that will be thrown in that Either side can use unless noted... Bridges Each have a number on them which is the amount of Success chits you must achieve in Battle in order to claim... 5 Objectives must be achieved, each one in a given time span: Bridges into Germany Ruhr Valley Factories II SS Corps Destruction Road Access to Antwerp Cut off 15th Army Access Roads to be continued... Updated, now I will be adding "Blocks" to represent command status and then have a battle board for Units...
